- Compression fractures occur when the bones of the spine break by pressing on themselves. Most often, this is caused by weakened spinal bones due to such conditions as Osteoporosis or
cancer (off the bone).

- Back pain along spine

- Spinal CT scan or MRI if diagnosis
is unclear

- Anti-inflammatory or narcotic pain
medications as needed
- Support braces help some
patients.

- Since Osteoporosis is the most common cause, prevention with exercise, hormone replacement, and other medications as indicated, is advised (see section on Osteoporosis).
