- This is a small-localized infection (abscess) of the sebaceous glands at the root of eyelashes. The cause is often staphylococcus bacteria. The infection, which can occur externally or internally, will produce swelling, redness, and pain.
- If the Stye does not drain on its own, your doctor may recommend warm water compresses using a clean cloth 10-15 minutes each time and 3-4 times a day may help the abscess to drain.
- Antibiotics or surgical drainage may be necessary for complicated cases.
