- These are sores on the feet. They cause concern when they do not heal rapidly. The major causes of slow or non-healing foot ulcers are diabetes, venous insufficiency (in the latter, veins do not work properly to return blood to the heart so fluid backs up into the legs and feet), and arterial insufficiency (arteries from heart are blocked and do not bring enough blood.)
