- This is an infection of the eyelid caused by staphylococcal bacteria. It causes the eyelid to be red, swollen, and tender.

- Warm compresses (warm wet clean wash cloths) applied multiple times during the day are helpful in relieving pain.
- Antibiotic eye ointment such as bacitracin or erythromycin may be helpful.
- If the sty persists more than 48 hours, an incision (to allow it drain) by an ophthalmologist may be necessary.
