Colposcopy


  • No abnormalities of the vagina or cervix are noted

  • Colposcope is inserted into vagina
  • The endothelial and connective tissues are seen with magnification and illumination of the instrument
  • Cell sample are removed by endocervical curretage
  • A tissue biopsy may also be performed

  • To evaluate an abnormal Pap smear (Papanicolaou's test)
  • To monitor for precancerous abnormalities
  • To evaluate a lesion of the vagina or cervix

  • Atrophic cellular changes
  • Cervical erosion
  • Cervical intraepithelial neoplasm
  • Condyloma
  • Invasive carcinoma
  • Papilloma

  • Vaginal creams
