The Guru Gets Organic

The Health Guru / eCureMe LIFE
So usually your Guru is a city dweller and gives you the scoop on
everything that goes down between the inner working of these cement walls.
My journey is meant to reflect the pitfalls of living in a modern world
and the difficulties that come along with maintaining a healthy lifestyle
within that system.
With all systems, there is formula to manipulate it. There is a way to
survive no matter who is in control. Most of these topics are light
hearted and meant to add a little smile to your days.
This one’s going to be a little bit different my people. Something
has happened. Lately I’ve been focusing so much on career and success
I have strayed a bit from my original focus of doing my part to better the
world. If that sounds idealistic to you, you need to check yourself.
We are not here merely to consume what the earth provides us. We are here
to help each other. Organisms depend on each other for survival.
Unfortunately, they are often their own worst enemy, and with the latest
information I’ve received, I think we might be loosing our way while
at an irreversible crossroads.
As I was trying to come up with a topic for this weeks’ article,
a friend of mine approached me and handed me a DVD and said, "Try this.
It might give you an idea or two."
After viewing the DVD "The Future of Food" By Deborah Garcia, my
mind is drifting towards the heartland of the country, focusing on how
farmers are loosing their land and their livelihoods to the monster of
chemically engineered food.
The Video blew my mind. It was all about how genetically altered food got
its start and more disturbingly, how the government regulatory boards
allow for chemicals in food that cause cancer and birth defects to receive
FDA approval and make it out to the market.
Chemically engineered food came as a response to the large amount of
pesticide spraying that took place on American farms in order to prevent
crops from being destroyed by bugs and other parasites. Genetically
altered seeds were created to withstand the spraying and apparently make
food safe to eat.
Only problem is that it also made it unsafe to eat and created a legal
loophole that allowed the companies that made the seeds to own everything
produced by them. They own the patent on seeds!
The same companies that owned the seeds owned the pesticides, and the money
trails started to pile up. Eventually, seed companies were able to receive
government patents on any seed that they developed. Big Business now owns
life.
That means that if a farmer grows a plant that was grown with or randomly
pollinated by a seed that was patented by a company, then the company owns
not only that crop, but any crop produced EVER with those seeds.
They also have the right to make the farmers destroy their own seeds,
which they do quite often.
Think about that when you see those big bags being donated overseas in
3rd world countries. If Company A donates a bag of seeds to an underdeveloped
nation, they own anything that is pollinated with that seed as well.
The main portal to that and other information about the flick can be
found at http://www.thefutureofood.com.
Make sure you let them know the Guru sent you.
What struck me most about the film is that call for government labels to
be put on the chemically grown foods was rejected. Perhaps that is
because the people who sit on the regulatory government boards are the
same people who sit on the boards of the seed companies. Just go to the
site, buy the flick and know that you have the power to change what is
happening. All you need is to be aware.
"Is that all Guru?"
No. You see, the lesson learned from this is that large scale operations
without much variety and have a tendency to over saturate the environment
and take away its natural diversity, our diversity, which is the very
thing that keeps us human.
After all, without our histories and traditions, how are we dissimilar
from the rest of the animals? Our technology may in fact be regressing us,
instead of the constant progress that is being shown in movies and
television. You must look at who owns things, and then choose who to buy
from. You can control your own versions of diversity.
If the earth constantly grows the same crop over and over again, that
ground will eventually not be able to produce anything but that crop.
There will be no choice for diversity. Because of this, you must choose.
Large scale corporations already have a stronghold on healthcare and the
financial industry. Now, I know many of you need to get your specific things
at the store, so go ahead. Their dollars support farmers; what we are
looking to do is to make it so they do not control them. Buying from small
farms will keep the possibility of choice in your hands.
Diversity allows for a true democratic system to produce capitalism at its
organic roots -Natural style. That’s truly the American way -
to evolve into something healthy and strong from learning from mistakes, not
using lobbyists to carry more weight than FDA scientists.
What can you do? Well, when shopping, tell the manager that you want labels
on the food stating whether or not you are buying a natural tomato or a
chemically engineered one. If enough people do it, trends will change.
Already, I’m sure you’ve noticed that organic food aisles are
popping up in your markets. That happened because of customer demand, not
because the markets wanted you to be healthier. Show them the power of your
dollar and they’ll listen.
Capitalism can be healthy my people. Remember, we were designed to change.
Revolution is written into our constitution and we must live up to that.
Take out the "R" in revolution and you will see that humanity depends on
evolution.
Let’s make sure it’s a natural one.
Peace.
