RUN, GURU, RUUUUUUUN!

The Health Guru / eCureMe LIFE
Low-Carb-High-Fat-All Bacon-Fat Free Chips dipped in MSG and
Olestra but no fat, with a Diet Coke followed by fits of starving yourself past
eight o’clock, waking up the next day, and feel, what? How? Good?
No.
Go to the gym. Do exercises on machines that history has done without for the first
few million years of existence, but now somehow needs to keep in shape.
This is the exercise that is supposed to calm you down and relive your stress?
In most cases, it builds your muscle and provides you with a nice physical exterior,
but the gut, unless you work your abdominal muscles every day for over an hour, will
escape washboard or at least laundry mat status.
And, you’re still an angry person. Your Guru has been there too my people.
So what to do?
First, spend an hour or so making the perfect mix CD, the most hyped, inspiring or
at least driving songs that you have. Then, just go.
While the thought of getting up off the couch or out of bed early to run is as
appealing as a Rosanne Show Reunion special, when you comeback, the world will no
doubt have changed drastically for you. Or, at least, the way you see it will.
20 minutes in the morning will help with everything. But let the Guru not speak
alone. Never afraid to drop a little bit of knowledge from the text books:
When the doc tells you that you need some exercise to balance out the amount of
times you spend rolling through the Drive Through, they don’t mean to go to
the gym, they mean cardiovascular exertion.
Why Guru, why?
Running burns calories and speeds up your heart rate, which speeds up your
metabolism, which is what helps to break down fatty foots and high carbs. Faster
your metabolism is, faster you digest - It’s why smokers get that little
kick when they light up after a meal - It speeds up the heart rate and
metabolism just a bit.
Sorry folks, your Guru just had a smoking flash back. 8 months and counting.
So, if you want to fit into those jeans, you don’t need to starve yourself
or order hamburgers without the bun wrapped in lettuce.
That’s kind of weird, huh?
If you run 1 mile, that will usually burn up to 100 calories. In addition to
that, you body will start to move, allowing growth and rejuvenating injuries
quicker because everything is used to moving at an accelerated rate. If your
body is used to being put in a stressful situations on a regular basis, it will
be able to deal with stress during the work week.
In short, running can prevent that physical breakdown most of the working class
people of the world feel around 3:30 P.M on a Wednesday afternoon. You’ll
have already earned your second wind.
As your Guru has told you many times, almost every time, meditation is the key
to it all. When you run, you are forced to breathe at a somewhat steady pace.
If you are moving, concentrating on your breathing patterns might prove not be as
maddening.
For those of my people with ADD, ADHD, ODDˇ¦.OPPˇ¦
Whatever music you are listening to will develop your rhythm for the run. Your
mediation will occur when you hit your stride and move past the physical pain
being put on your body and start to concentrate on how clearly you can think when
your body is preoccupied with something else.
While running with others is fun, it is truly a solo adventure, and should be
used to develop your time alone so that you enjoy being with yourself. This
will make it easier to deal with people because you have already gotten yourself
through a difficult journey alone.
Check it out. Try this new Guru stew for a week. See if you are moving faster
and are a bit calmer than those around who have not done it. If you say you
have no time, know that your Guru works many a task in the long day, as does his
readers, but getting up while the rooster is stretching his vocal chords gets you
more life.
Stop dreaming and run through reality.
Physically, you will see your problems being sweat out of you. Each pound of the
shoe to the concrete, or trail or mountain, but something outside, will connect
you with the world.
Running helps to stimulate cells that run your nervous system. New Neurons are
actually generated when this stimulation occurs, allowing you to retain memory
when you age as well as keep your wits about you.
"Stop it Guru, my head’s going to explode."
Good. A total confusion, eruption and calming resolution is good for you.
Spring time is coming. Those sweaters will start coming off and interaction
between humans will take place again.
Be ready.
Go run.
Peace.
H.G.
