The Guru Sniffs Out The Truth About Aromatherapy.

January 15th, 2005

So, you know what you like. What you see. What feels good to you. What your favorite taste is like rolling over your tongue and into your belly. You know your favorite music by now. That’s four of the five, but what about the smell?

Your Guru, coming into the New Year, was looking for a little something more than what he went into the old one with. While mediation, decent nutrition and a constant downloading of information into my mind were doing wonders, I still wasn’t able to relax and enjoy the recent rain that’s been hitting Los Angles like a left hook from vintage Mike Tyson.

Aromatherapy

Out of nowhere, well, not really out of nowhere, as your Guru believes that there is no such thing as coincidence; I met one of my Shamans while waiting in line for a Bagel at Canters Deli. She had under her arm a basket filled with candles, oil and inscents, and offered me a cure for all that ails me.

"That’s a pretty big promise," I said to her, letting her know that your Guru’s mind was constantly racing and had a difficult time slowing down naturally.

"When’s the last time you stopped and smelled something," she asked me.

I couldn’t remember. Before I knew it, the bagel I was going taking to go wound up being an entire sit down meal, and in that time, my New Shaman opened another door towards enlightenment for me.

Now let me do the same for you.

The art of Aromatherapy can be traced to the Chinese and Egyptians, although like many inventions, there is a debate as to who came up with it first. Since none of us has figured out the art of time travel, we’ll call it a draw and take what masters from both civilizations have left us.

Essentially, Aromatherapy is the extracting of essential oils from around 40 different plants and roots. This extraction gives you the strongest dosage of natural healing vitamins and minerals. They are usually applied in massage oils and baths, and in some rare cases, teas.

While the essential minerals existing in these plants do provide one with healing powers, it is the smell that actually is believed to being the healing device. How can a smell heal? Well, your Guru is always telling you about the power your mind has to create reality, and this is no different.

You know how some smells, wherever you smell them, take you back to a wonderful memory. The scent of your first love’s perfume or cologne? The spices used in a dish that your moms used to cook up for you. Scent, perhaps more than sight or sound, can affect your memory and your mind stronger than any of the other senses.

How Guru? How can it do this? I hear you asking as well as see you shaking your head. But it’s true. Check this rhythm:

Your nose is filled with calledolfactory nerve cells, which, when stimulated, send messages to the Limbic portion of your brain, which is where all of your memory and learned emotions are stored.

Now, remember, we told you that this form of medicinal usage has been around since back back back in the day, so a detailed perfection of which scent and how much it can trigger a certain emotion has been carefully laid out, and, with that in mind, is able to calm down a stressful thought or series of thoughts.

Pretty intense, no? So, along with your meditation and secession of your addictions, you are now ready to dive deeper into your mind by activating all of your nerves, stress and bad memories. And, once activated, you will be able to sooth and regenerate.

Now understand that this treatment, as with all treatments, should be administered by a trained professional. With the increased interest in holistic health care, there are no shortage of experts. Don’t go picking shrubs from your back yard and squeezing them into a tea.

Your Guru does not need any sick followers on his path. Seek your own Shamans, they will provide.

All of this because your Guru loves Bagels.

Well, actually, because I was open to new things and I don’t mind talking to strange people with baskets full of goodies I have no idea about. Keep searching for the answers, but until then, the Guru always provides.

Give until it hurts.

..and then some.

Peace.

H.G.
