THE GURU GETS AN EARLY JUMP ON ADDICTION
October 26th, 2004

The Health Guru / eCureMe LIFE
What is it that you need? That you crave? That you cannot do without?
The last time you were in the supermarket, what did you put in your basket?
Did you tap your feet and look at your watch to see how late you were?
Did you notice that you were in a room full of food that most of the world does
not have access to? No, you thought about what? You thought only of feeding your
own addictions.
It’s time to cut loose. If most addictions are learned, then they can be
unlearned as well.
With the New Year on the horizon, I bet a great number of you out there saying
all of thing things that you are going to give up once ’05 comes around.
This does not mean you can go overboard until then.
"Yeah, I’ll just get hammered for the next few months, you know, get my
partying out of my system, and I’ll start fresh next year!"
Great plan. How’d that work out for you last year?
There are no quick fixes for our addictions. They have taken years to build
themselves into our minds, and it will take time and discipline to vacuum them out.
Before the weather turns to a point where survival is the only thing you are
thinking about, you need to get prepared.
So here you go. Follow the path the Guru sets out for you, and when the year
turns, you’ll be able to walk through the door with whatever you like,
and leave the garbage on the other side of the curtain.
And what is the greatest substitute for all that ales you?
It’s water. Basic. Fundamental. Cleansing. And in this country,
relatively free.
Try it, you like.
First off: Smoking. The statistics of millions world wide dying of cancer,
the nastiness of the inside of a smoker’s mouth or other body parts has
not deterred you from quitting. Your Guru even laid out a plan of you keeping
the smokes in your mailbox, but you still crept out in the night for a drag.
Every time you need a cigarette, try drinking a glass of water. For a while,
you’ll become a human Draino commercial, but don’t worry. You’re
cleaning yourself out and filling your body with what you need. Soon, you’ll
be so sick of drinking water that you’ll go back to a moderate rate.
By the new year, you should be down to about 3-5 a day. Now you will be ready
for your final detox and push of cold turkey.
Next, we know everyone is going to start to booze like a crazy because it’s
the holidays and, if you don’t have someone laying next to you, the empty
spot in the bed is going to start to feel colder, while the ones with someone
next to you sometimes brings that extra stress to push you out of bed and
reaching for a drink.
If you are drinking alone, you shouldn’t be. If you need to get a little
tossed, call some friends over or go to them. Usually, the companionship of
loved ones will intoxicate you enough to keep from needing that next drink.
Pace yourself. There’s plenty of time.
And of course, the obsession that is finally being exposed as a serious medical
problem in the United States: Obesity. The trips to the fridge are going to
increase because your body temperature is going to drop, which means you’ll
need more fuel to keep warm.
When you’re out shopping, try stocking your fridge with things that you
NEED. Have a list before you go to the market, and don’t be tricked by
the packaging. Remember, they spend millions of dollars trying to get you to
want their product. You need to devote a few minutes to guard against it.
Practical preparation before your actions helps to prevent failure.
If you are removing things from your life, you need to fill yourself up with
replacements. Make sure that those replacements are not another vice. If you
stop smoking, take up cigars. Exercise, especially walking, helps your body
and soul. Keeping in contact with the world around you keeps you from wanting
more.
Spreading love brings it all around to you.
Give more of yourself than you ask in these next few months, and you will be
cleansing your storage bank of desires. This time, you will be able to fill
them with what you truly like, not what you are addicted to.
Peace.
