The Guru Finds the Fountain of Youth in Old Age.
Getting down with seniors can keep you eternally young.

Feeling detached? Feeling like the world is caving in on you and there’s nowhere to turn?

Besides the fact that there are presently thousands of people in Haiti who are subject to midnight runs of gangs stealing water and food for survival, you are young, healthy and have much of your life ahead of you.

In short, no matter how bad the breaks are hitting you right now, there are people who need more from you. Now, I understand that most of you don’t have spare cash or spare time, but there is a way for you to give back to some people who are truly in need of your services..

The Guru Find the Fountain of Youth in Old Age.

Seniors. When’s the last time you talked with someone over 65? I’m not talking about "Excuse me, can I speak to your daughter for a second," or Honking at them yelling things like "Damn old man, why do they let them drive anyway?"

Them?

This should not be counted as spare time, but time spent enriching your own life. Knowledge creates a greater capacity for understanding the world.

Besides, it’s not spare time. Spending time with seniors can enrich you as much as it does them.

Remember when you were young and your grandmother, no matter how strange she smelled, would sit you down and tell long stories about past times. You became lost in her world, and looked at here as an elder, someone to be respected, cared for and most importantly, loved. Just because someone can’t move quickly or lacks sex appeal, doesn’t mean they don’t require love.

Did you bust out laughing when Grandpa Simpson forgot to take his medicine and shows up with breasts and platinum blond hair?

Just because your grandmother is no longer with you, doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of people out there who need your help. Old people are not relics of a forgotten age that should be thrown away because their breasts hang too low or they have an unsightly rash on their arm. These people held the world together for you, so it’s time you paid them a little respect.

Next time you see someone shuffling down the street carrying groceries, give them a hand and let them know that they have someone to talk and walk with and someone to lean on. Talk to them and let them get through a story without you nodding your head "Yeah, O.Kˇ¦Uh. huhˇ¦" Do you think they don’t know what you’re doing just because they’re a bit slow?

Respect due, Kid.

There’s a chance that they may enlighten you. Living longer usually makes you wiser.

Survivors of past wars who have nothing but their memories would be great for someone to talk about what really goes down in a war. Ask them what they think about these two men fighting for control of the free world.

Ask about love. A man who lived next store to me, he was about 85 before he passed away, would show me old pictures from the 1940’s of girls he used to date. "Ha, I tell you what. Wasted my time chasing these dames. The right woman, the right woman can make you a better man. Look for the inside. That’s what you wake up with everyday. They all look like me eventually."

I mean, if someone coming close to rocking an entire century drops knowledge on you, you know this is the uncut truth. How many times do you have an opportunity to get at that?

Never.

Listen to your Guru here my people - look to you elders and the light will appear.

Who knows, perhaps it might be able to redefine beauty for you and let you know that it is what is inside that cruel boundary we call skin that truly matters.

Your history lies with people who have walked through it, so why not sit with them for a spell before it’s all over.

Peace.

H.G.
