This is a
rare syndrome that occurs mostly in younger males, characterized by bouts of uncontrollable sleep that last up to two days. Such bouts of sleep are followed by hypersexuality, increased hunger, confusion, and irritability upon awakening. These attacks usually occur three or four times per year. A history of neurological injury may contribute to the syndrome. Symptoms commonly disappear by 40 years of age.
