Congenital laryngeal stridor, laryngomalacia

This is the most common congenital laryngeal anomaly; characterized by a softness or weakness of the airway wall.

Embryologic origin of defect is unknown.

Based on clinical findings Direct laryngoscopy
|
 |
No specific treatment is required. Slow and careful feedings with small nipple, dropper, or gavage (stomach tube) Nasotracheal intubation or tracheostomy in severe cases

It should resolve spontaneously by 6-24 months of age. Minor abnormalities may persist until teenage years in some cases.
