  • This occurs when an abscess of the meibomian gland of the eyelid (i.e., an internal Hordeolum abscess) is followed by granulomatous (a type of inflammatory reaction) inflammation.

  • Hard, nontender swelling of the upper or lower eyelid
  • The white of the eye is red and elevated.
  • Vision may be impaired if the chalazion presses against the cornea of the eye.

  • Incision and curettage by an ophthalmologist
  • Warm wet compresses
  • It may subside spontaneously.
