Description

• This is a rare syndrome characterized by burning pain and redness in the feet, legs, and hands, but is less common in the hands and feet.  Symptoms in the legs usually occur when the leg is down as when standing, or when exposed to heat.

Symptoms

• Burning pain and redness in legs/feet, especially when standing

• Rarely, can occur in the hands/arms

Cause

• Often unknown
• High Blood Pressure
• Polycythemia Vera
• Medication reactions (e.g., nifedipine or bromocriptine)

• Essential Thrombosis

Treatment

• Aspirin is helpful.

• Symptoms are often relieved by exposure to cool air or water.

• Arterial ischemia of the affected limb
