- No abnormalities of the ovaries, follopian tubes, uterus, liver, or peritoneal cavity are noted.

- To investigate the cause of abdominal or pelvic pain
- To detect Endometriosis or an ectopic pregnancy
- To identify a pelvic or abdominal mass
- To investigate suspected liver disease or the cause of Ascites
- To determine if cancer is present or has metastasized

- Failure to maintain a nothing-by-mouth status
- Obesity
- Adhesions
- Advanced abdominal wall malignancy
- Hernia
- Severe cardiorespiratory disease
- Intestinal Obstruction
- Uncooperative patient
