The physical effects of an anxiety attack can cripple you with the triple threat
of fear, anger and jealousy, all leaving you in a world of panic and trepidation
- So much that you feel as though you are literally going to bust out from
your skin.
These usually occur before critical conversations, interviews, dates, decisions,
as well as after all of these events take place. Relax, you’re not alone.
If you are, you shouldn’t be. Read on, read on.
Right before the big moment, you start going over in your head how every thing will
go, what you have to do, how you should stand, breath, speak - Everything seems
to be flying in your face is super fast quick motion. So what are doing about it?
How are you handling the situation? You are panicking, you Guru sees you.
Once this happens, there is no way to control the situation usually calling all your
fears to manifest themselves. It was you who were doing it all the time.
How about that? You are your own worst enemy. Sorry about that, but at least you
don’t have to go searching the prairies of the unsettled west looking for
someone to put the blame on. Just turn on the lights and look into the mirror.
The problem is starring back at you.
Oh my, the Guru just turned it back to you.
The Guru offers up his Anxiety Kit for you to chill to. Yes my friends,
here’s a chill pill that has no side effects and no disclaimers, and nothing
that lasts for over 4 hours!
Here we go:
- First, as with everything, the key to relieving anxiety is mediating in the
morning. Before you do anything, you must calm down your mind. However, this
is only a preparation device. As we all know, to be calm and peaceful around
candles and inscents is one thing, but to remain calm when its all on the line
and you’re stuck in traffic while the world closes in on you, is another.
- If you’re home alone and worrying about everything in your life for an
extended period of time, you should go be around people. You’re just
beating yourself up. Stop picking on someone your own size! Now, the Guru does
not suggest you roll out to the middle of a crowded street or into a bar.
Often times, the influx of people you don’t know, seemingly to be
effortlessly enjoying themselves, can cause even more anxiety and chip away at
your self confidence. Call up a friend, or, if they’re not available, go
into a store where the owner knows you and can offer a few moments of kindness.
You’ll be surprised how easily that takes you out of the cycle of constantly
questioning yourself.
- You ever notice that often times you’re a much nicer and kinder person
when you are stressed or worried? That feeling is life humbling you and putting
your ego in check. Instead of reaching out to others when this situation arises,
try doing something nice for yourself. Whatever you were going to do for someone
else to show them what a nice person you are, try doing for yourself. If you
look at it closely, doing things for other people when you are experiencing an
anxiety attack is actual a form of self sabotage. Sorry for flipping your wigs
here my friends, but we must get at it, if we are to get at it.
- "He’s just a Man, Rock!" That’s what Mick says to Rocky
before he knocks out Mr. T. Now, whoever you are facing is just a human being,
same as you. Regardless of the car that they step out of a car or the way they
present themselves, they are still just like you. Knowing this AND reminding
yourself of it can clam your nerves just a bit and limit the panic session that
come before and lasts through the night after the event. How many episodes of
M*A*S*H are you going to watch?
- Drugs and Booze - It’s just not working. We all know those scenes
in the old western where, just before a big gun fight, the hero takes a swig of
whiskey to steady his nerves. While that may steady your hand for the fight,
what are you going to do when there is no shot waiting for you at the moment of
truth? Practicing sobriety in moments of high anxiety is the best way to overcome
it. If you feel that madness creeping in, just go with it, tell yourself,
’OK, I’m tripping out, but after I feel this pain, I’ll be
stronger." Getting high unnaturally in those situations only allow the problem
to regroup and come on stronger for the next round.
- Switch from coffee to tea for a week. See what happens. ’Nuff said
on that.
That’s a six pack for the soul for you to get started on. If you use these
for the foundation of attacking the anxiety attacks, you might overcome them.
The Guru knows that some of you need to be medicated for serious anxiety related
conditions. I’m not taking your meds away. But for those who are inside of
your houses worrying about what the next day at work will bring, get away from the
medicine cabinet, close the door, and take a look at yourself.
Develop a level of awareness again about yourself. See how you’ve aged, how
you’ve become an adult, what you’ve taken with you and what you’ve
left behind. Once you start to gain that same level of intimacy you had with
yourself when you were a child, you will understand what is causing your anxiety,
and be able to deal with it when it arises.
However, before you can scoop up the benefits of the cure, you must walk the path.
Not going to lie to you, it’s a nasty one, but the destination as well as the
knowledge it provides is better than the prepackaged sameness of the mini-mall
on your left.
Peace.
